The history of Naples, Florida, is part of what makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. There is always something to do in Naples, and there are also a few annual events that add to your visit. If you gather a little culture and learning experience during your trip to Naples, you will not be disappointed.

The city is flanked by white sand and the calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and it has some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. Other great destinations are around City Pier in downtown, as well as Vanderbilt Beach and Clam Pass Park, where there are concession stands and beach rentals.

You can take a trip to the Historic District, where you will learn a lot about Naples. Visit the Neapolitan Historical Society, the Naples Depot Museum, the Naples Zoo, or the Waterside Shops. There are also many historic buildings, such as the Old Town Hall.

Founded in the late 1880s by a former Confederate general John Stuart Williams and his business partner Walter N. Haldeman, publisher of the Louisville Courier-Journal, the name Naples became known when promoters described the bay as surpassing the bays of Naples, Italy.

Louisville newspapers reported news from Naples and surrounding areas to encourage others to take an interest in the Florida development community. Naples remained slow, but newspapers ran ads praising southwest Florida and comparing it to Naples, Italy.

Of course, the most popular thing you can do in Naples is to go to the beach, but be prepared to experience many new things while you are here. Naples' beaches are some of the best in the world, and the city has been repeatedly ranked as having one of the top 10 beaches in Florida. There is also a thriving food landscape with all kinds of delicious options.

In the south of Naples, numerous canals and waterfront houses provide special features and offer many homeowners access to the Gulf of Mexico. Naples and Marco Island are surrounded by unforgettable outdoor activities, with a glittering golf course and a variety of beaches and places for hiking, cycling, fishing, kayaking, boating, and more.

Naples consists of a maze of mangrove islands formed by the southwest coast of Florida. The best way to experience and appreciate the delicate environment here is to go paddling or kayaking in the Gulf of Mexico or explore the beautiful beaches of Naples and Marco Island, as well as the beaches and waterways.

There are several charter airports in the area, but they are usually used only by residents of their affluent community or those flying in, or for charter aircraft. If you want to see Naples from the water, Pure Florida Naples is the best choice, offering delicious lunch and dinner cruises. Off the beaten track, you can buy souvenirs from local artists and artisans in the city.

If you are looking for a unique and charming piece of Neapolitan history, then you should look no further than the historic Palm House. Located near the Naples Pier on 12th Avenue South, it is considered the oldest house in Naples. In 1954 Julius Fleischmann's vision for Naples became a reality and included an attraction with rare birds. The Olde Naples Building has been interspersed with many things since it was built in 1853, but it is still one of the most iconic buildings in the city.

Bonita Springs, a shopping mall with more than 1,000 shops and restaurants, is a must-see place to shop.
